Tornado sirens were tested Wednesday as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week. They’re designed to alert residents who are outside. For those inside, there is an important tool available to protect your family.
It’s called the Weather Authority Storm Call. Once someone signs up at WOWT.com, the user will receive a phone call only when their neighborhood is under a tornado warning. Sirens and weather radios are triggered for entire counties, but Storm Call pinpoints a user’s home only if it’s in the path of the storm. The user can decide whether to receive a phone call on their landline or mobile phone. They can even sign up for text messages.
If you travel, enter your current location into the Storm Call system and you will be alerted to danger, if there’s any. It’s great for when you’re out of town and unsure of what county you’re in.
The subscription is $9.95 per year.
