A Life Taken Too Soon

The family of a metro teenager is struggling with their loss. The young man was found dead earlier this weekend.

Julius Vaughn's mother said she knew when she saw the yellow tape.

"I said well is he alive, and he said no he is not," she remembers after talking to a police officer.

Friday October 18th, police found the 19-year-old shot to death inside his own car on 23rd and Vinton.

Vaughn's family admits he had enemies.

Enemies from a time in his past when he was a gang member.

"And that's what it was," said his mother talking about the shooting. "The wreckage of his past."

On Sunday, his family and friends come together, struggling with the loss. They each know the potential Vaughn had, several told Channel Six that Vaughn was turning his life around.

"He was at a point, he was ready to try and move on and do something different," said Vaughn's aunt.

Among this family is another mother who has felt the same pain; Felita Seals is the mother of Brendon Ford. Ford was murdered June 16th just after a party.

Seals holds tight to a picture of Ford and Vaughn, calling the grown teenagers 'two peas in a pod.'

"It's just sad that we are never going to get to see them again," said Vaughn.

It has been three days since the Friday night shooting, and Vaughn's family is still waiting to see his body.

It's a wait that is taking the family beyond frustration.

"I have prepared myself to see the worst, and this waiting, and this anticipation, and all this, is making it even harder to deal with," said Vaughn's mother.

A family member tell Channel Six, Julius had been shot more than once. Aside from that police haven't told them much.

Vaughn's family said Julius was intelligent, loved his family, was an athlete, and had a truly capturing personality.

Right now, the family wants justice to be served. They urge anyone with information about this crime to come forward and call police. The anonymous tipline is 402-444-7867.
