A Cure For Blindness

Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley have discovered a chemical that can restore vision to blind mice.

It's research that holds promise for people who've lost their ability to see because of age-related macular degeneration or other forms of blindness.

The effect of the chemical wears off after a while -- which researchers say may be better than other experimental approaches to restoring sight that permanently alter the retina.

The chemical is called AAQ. Safety and effectiveness studies are warranted in humans.
