Speaking to dozens of people at a formal groundbreaking ceremony, Nelson and Plattsmouth Mayor Paul Lambert asked citizens to visualize what downtown will look like in two years after completion of the project that separates the sanitary and storm sewers and builds in the improvements outlined in streetscape.
Lambert spoke about the histories of the two projects and how they merged.
There had been designing and planning since 1983 for downtown improvements similar to the streetscape blueprint unveiled several months ago.
The Environmental Protection Agency made Plattsmouth aware a few years ago that a mandate to separate the storm and sanitary sewer was imminent.
