Plattsmouth Flooding Forces Some Out

Local authorities were monitoring flood prone points along the Platte River this morning. Flood warnings continued in effect in eastern Cass County for the Platte and Missouri Rivers,

The situation worsened with rainfall of 1.25 to 1.50 inches in the Platte River basin in Cass and Sarpy Counties overnight last night.

The flood warnings for the Platte and Missouri Rivers first went into effect Friday afternoon.

Flood stage on the Platte River at Louisville is 9 feet. Moderate flood stage is 11 feet. The flood warning was upgraded to the moderate stage Sunday morning. Platte River readings: Friday 3pm 9.24 feet. // Saturday 8:15am 8.15 feet // Sunday 3am 9.71 feet // 9.9 feet 4:30am today

The latest forecast called for a crest of 10.7 feet Tuesday morning (6/15).

Flood stage on the Missouri River at Plattsmouth is 26 feet. Missouri River readings: Friday 8:08am 24.80 feet // Saturday 8am 28.87 feet // Sunday 7:35am 29.71 feet // (today's reading not yet available)

The latest Flood Warning for the Missouri River from the mouth of the Platte south was issued Sunday night and continued this morning. The river is forecast to crest about 5.4 feet over flood stage at Nebraska City on Wednesday morning.

There is no flooding threat on the Weeping Water Creek near Union. The reading at Union today was 8.48 feet at 4:15am. Flood stage is 23 feet.

The National Weather Service advises you not to underestimate the power of flood waters. Only a few inches of rapidly flowing water can quickly carry away your vehicle.
