The driver of a mail truck was hospitalized in serious condition when the vehicle was hit by a train at a crossing near Crescent, Iowa Friday evening.
Forty-seven-year-old Joseph Jennings was ejected from the cab. He was not wearing a seat belt.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. just off Interstate 29 near I-680 on Old Morman Bridge Road at the Crescent exit. The crossing has flashing lights, which were activated, but there are no crossbars. Witnesses said the train's horn was in use.
“Gentleman in the cargo van came around on the left side and I don't know if he saw the train or not and it just exploded right in front of me,” said Shawn Krause.
The truck was hit on the back of the driver's side. The crash scattered mail all over the tracks.
