A decision handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court this week is likely to affect a 34-year-old man who has been serving a life sentence in Nebraska.
On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that teens sentenced to
life prison terms must have a meaningful opportunity to obtain
release if they haven't killed their victims.
In Nebraska, the only inmate falling in that category is Jeremy
Herman, who was sentenced to life without parole for his role in
the 1992 murder of Jeremy Drake.
Herman was 17 when he and another teen kidnapped Drake. Herman's
accomplice, Christopher Masters, killed Drake the same day.
Herman pleaded guilty to kidnapping on the advice of his
attorney, who did not know that the kidnapping conviction carried a
