Guilty Plea In Franchise Scheme

A New York man enters a guilty plea after a three year federal investigation that started from a story aired on Channel Six News.

61 year old Allan Feifer appeared in Omaha Federal Court Monday. He was charged with one count of mail fraud.

For several years Feifer sold restaurant owners across the county on the concept of franchising.

Ron Olson owns Round the Bend Steakhouse near South Bend Nebraska. He paid $2,500 seven years ago but said no franchise was ever started. Olson said, "He was slick and promised a buyer for the first franchise was lined up. I don't know what happened to my money."

Feifer's attorney told Six On Your Side the Federal case boils down to 90 restaurant owners in 40 states. The combined loss is $200,000.

Omaha postal inspector Perry Mitchell said he started the investigation after a story with one of the victims aired on Channel Six News three years ago.

Feifer will be sentenced in January. He's been released on his own recognizance.
