Police Say Taco John's Employee Lied About Robbery

North Platte police say a fast-food restaurant employee made up a story about being robbed at knifepoint so that he could take the business's cash for himself.

Authorities say Todd Herndon called police to the restaurant late Saturday night and told officers a man had come into Taco John's on East 4th Street through an unlocked back door.

Herndon told officers the man put a knife to his throat and demanded money just as Herndon was preparing the day's receipts.

Police later determined Herndon had lied about the robbery.

Herndon was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of theft and making a false report. He remained in jail Wednesday morning.

The Lincoln County Attorney's office says formal charges had not been filed by Wednesday morning but were expected later in the day.
