The Arbor Day Foundation is encouraging college campuses to plant more trees and recognizing colleges that already practice sound campus forestry.

The Nebraska City-based foundation says 74 schools have been recognized with Tree Campus USA awards in the first two years of the program.

Tree Campus USA honors campuses and the leaders of nearby communities for promoting healthy urban forests and environmental
stewardship. It's similar to the Arbor Day Foundation's Tree City USA honor.

The Tree Campus program is supported by $1.3 million in grants from Toyota. That money will help pay to plant roughly 300 trees on five college campuses this spring.
