Mike Meisinger can’t tell a machine to quit calling him.
Mike said, “Sometimes three or four times a day.”
Same goes for Matt Mattson of Omaha.
Matt said, “We’ve had calls just about everyday for the last two or three weeks.”
The automated calls come from debt collectors but both retired senior citizens said they don’t have any past due bills.
The automated “robo calls” leave a number to call about a “file”.
Mike said, “I’m just afraid to call and get into some sort of a scam.”
Matt said, “I think they’re just fishing and if I acknowledge them it’s just going to get worse.”
Six On Your Side called two debt collectors making the calls.
One wouldn’t provide any information but another was looking for someone Mike Meisinger doesn’t know yet repeatedly called his number.
The Better Business Bureau President Jim Hegarty said if automated debt collection calls are result of mistaken identity then the BBB will help. Hegarty said, “If it’s confusing and doesn’t make sense call the BBB and give us details so we can help you sort through the process.”
