Windstream Communications confirmed Friday that phone service has been restored to Southeast Nebraska. A representative said service has been stable since 11:20 p.m. Thursday.

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Department said early Friday that it was receiving all calls, from both wireless phones and landlines.

An equipment malfunction at Windstream’s Lincoln switching facility caused the problems Thursday, and affected more than just Lincoln. Many customers across 22 counties were unable to contact 911. Dispatch centers had to provide other ways to report emergencies.

Windstream says it is bringing in a third party Friday to perform an audit of the system. But a spokesperson said the problem has been resolved.
