Three members of a Bartlett, Nebraska family are on the mend after a tornado slammed into their farmstead. The sister of one of the victims says it's a miracle that they survived.

The tornado spun out of the clouds Monday night and churned for several minutes.

Along the way, it hit the home of Mick and Cathy Scarlett and their daughter Heidi. Bartlett Fire Chief Doug Reiter says the Scarletts' farmstead was completely devastated.

Heidi had 38 stitches on her knees and Mick had a gash on his forehead. All three had cuts and bruises.

Mick Scarlett was injured while trying to reach a cell phone in his truck to call for help after their home collapsed.

Family members say that Cathy Scarlett will require surgery to repair damaged vertebrae.

Family and friends helped at the farm in the aftermath of the storm, cleaning up and searching for photo albums and other keepsakes.
