A cattle feedlot operator has pleaded guilty to a federal misdemeanor for discharging waste from the animals into an adjacent wetland in south-central Nebraska.
A news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg says Dahlgren Cattle Co., Inc. pleaded guilty on Wednesday to malicious mischief to government property.
The company admitted discharge the waste into Cottonwood Waterfowl Production Area, which is next to the Bertrand-area feedlot.
The case began in July 2007 after state authorities were notified that livestock waste was flowing from the feedlot down a drainage ditch into the wetland.
The release says the feedlot had been fined previously for a similar discharge in November 2002.
