A woman charged with misdemeanor child neglect for allegedly abandoning her baby 11 hours after giving birth has pleaded not guilty in Lancaster County District Court.
Twenty-one-year-old Megan Skrdlant gave birth to the girl July 12th at a Lincoln hospital after allegedly checking in under a false name. The next morning she left the hospital without checking out.
Skrdlant's lawyer says the baby has been placed in foster care.
In all states except Nebraska and Alaska, a mother can leave her newborn at a safe haven -- often a hospital, police station or fire station.
