It's the tale of two ball parks. While Omaha's new TD Ameritrade Park is taking shape near the Qwest Center, construction on the future home of the Omaha Royals in Sarpy County is also in full swing.

A long, snowy winter doesn't seem to have had much effect on construction on the downtown stadium. A spokesperson for Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority says everything is on budget and on time.

To keep things moving, enclosures were created to keep out the snow and cold. Inside the stadium field access tunnels and stairways are just some of the things already in place. The structural steel is scheduled to be completed by the end of the March.

Progress on the Sarpy County baseball stadium is also on schedule.

Mark Wayne is the Sarpy County Administrator. "Even though it's been one of the worst winters on record, they've been doing a good job of keeping on schedule. So their schedule is right on track."

The stadium site is near 120th and Highway 370 southwest of Papillion. It sits nearly a quarter mile off the road, and is tough to see from the road.

Crews are currently pouring footings for the concrete wall that will surround the field.

"We're excited about it," says Wayne. "People are going to see that the Royals do a great job of marketing their product and working with the communities. I think they're going to be surprised what the Royals can do when they have their own facility to market and operate. It will be a lot of fun."

Wayne says passers-by should start to see the structure of the stadium going up by early June.

Both Omaha's and Sarpy County's stadiums are scheduled to be done by spring of 2011.
