Sentencing set for April 19th for 49-year-old Jerry J. Vasicek who pleaded guilty to three counts as part of a plea agreement this week.
The Cassgram reports hee stands convicted of flight to avoid arrest, a Class IV Felony, and third degree assault and obstruction of a police officer, both Class I Misdemeanors. A fourth count of felony possession of a firearm was dropped as part of the agreement. There is no joint recommendation on sentencing in the agreement.
Four Cass County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a physical and verbal domestic disturbance call last September at the Vasicek residence in Alvo. Upon arrival, deputies found Vasicek in his pickup and he drove through a neighbor’s lawn when they tried to block him in.
A pursuit that reached speeds of 95 to 100 mph ensued and went westward into Lancaster County. It ended when the vehicle went out of control and went off the road. Deputies apprehended Vasicek in a cornfield. A small caliber handgun was recovered.
