A new arrival at Lauritzen Gardens is bringing even more people to the popular Omaha attraction.
Long lines could be found in one of the gardens Sunday, but they had nothing to do with plants or flowers.
Model trains passing through the Gardens’ newest addition were the main attraction for hundreds of people.
"It's just cool to see them riding on all the tracks here," says Colby Ryan of Underwood, Iowa.
The railroad garden is the first of its kind in Omaha.
Visitors say it is long overdue.
"It adds to the garden's flavor. It's a chance for Omaha to have the different gardens that are available out there," says Pat Vacha of Omaha.
The railroad garden is made entirely with natural products such as twigs, bark and cinnamon sticks.
"We brought you into the world of trains but the best thing is that it's brought you to the world of plants and you really discover the whole Botanical Gardens and how neat it is. We might have been the reason you came, but we're also the reason you enjoy it," says Paul Busse of Applied Imagination.
Busse designed the exhibit.
He says the design gives people a quick snapshot of some of Omaha’s most historic buildings and bridges.
He says it also shows the role trains play in the city's growth.
Parents are hoping children learn a lot more.
Holly Cox says "They have their little toy trains at home and everything, but they don't fully understand yet, how much work really goes into every single thing that goes on here."
The railroad exhibit is a permanent part of Lauritzen Gardens.
Busse says he hopes to expand it to include more metro area landmarks.
