Will you remember where you were and what you did on New Year's Eve ten years from now?
How about in 20 or even 30?
One heartland couple will never forget New Year's Eve 2009.
It was a very special night for one heartland couple.
It happens once roughly every two and a half years.
Thirteen moons in a twelve month period --- when two fall in the same calendar month, it's called a blue moon.
And the saying “once in a blue moon” refers to a rarity---something that doesn't happen very often.
This brings us to a New Years Eve party at Erin’s Court near 120th and Fort Street.
Pete Hanger says he was semi-obligated to have a small gathering for New Years Eve.
He took it one step further.
“So I looked in to when the full moons might be around new years and I saw that December 31st was a full moon,” Hanger said. “I knew it was blue moon by definition and thought that would be a good time to propose of have the wedding.”
“He came up with the idea,” Hanger’s fiancée Shari Vigstol said. “He did some research in April and in August I got notified of what his plans were.”
And just before midnight a wedding.
Pete Hanger and Shari Vigstol became husband and wife.
The couple has been together for four years now.
This is the first wedding for each
And at the stroke of midnight, a kiss marked the beginning of a life together.
It was a night where a small gathering evolved into a life-long memory.
As 2009 ends for two individuals…2010 begins with the union of a couple.
Patience rewarded...a rarity achieved.
“You wait for the perfect person and it only happens once in a blue moon,” Shari said.
The Hangers aren't in a hurry to take their honeymoon.
They plan to head to Florida and a cruise in April.
Today --- they planned to sleep in late.
