Designed to fight weed fires the mini pumper has the four wheel driver and small frame to maneuver in tight areas closed in by snow drifts.
Fire Captain Jim Gentile said. “It has an inch and third quarter line and we can put 100 to 150 gallons of water on a fire.”
In LaVista, police are using public works trucks for emergency response where cruisers can’t get through in the snow. Two of the four wheel drive pickups have temporary police markings including a portable police light on top.
Another truck has a snow blade on the front. LaVista Police Sgt. Todd Armbrust said, ‘We can put an officer or another police department employee in the plow and drop the plow to clear out snow on the roadway so we can get marked cruisers where we need them to go.”
In a winter storm first responders say it’s not just getting to a scene in a hurry it’s also just getting there.
