A case involving a deadly traffic accident that took the lives of two metro teenagers is being referred to juvenile court.
The driver of the car involved, 16-year-old Corena Stigge, has been ticketed for two counts of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide.
Two passengers in Ms. Stigge's car, 15-year-old Nick Alfrey and 15-year-old Kayla Wilkins, died from injuries suffered in the May 4th accident at 222nd and West Center Road.
Investigators say that Ms. Stigge was driving through the intersection and failed to yield to a pickup truck driven by 57-year-old Kenneth Chmelka.
The two vehicles collided.
Both drivers survived.
A news release from Douglas County Attorney Stu Dornan states, "In reviewing the statutory considerations, this office has chosen to have Corena Stigge's case processed through the juvenile court system."
The release further states, "The juvenile court system is a much more realistic place for those involved to get the help they need to get through this most difficult ordeal."
