Bond has been set at $1 million for a teacher at Norris Middle School booked on suspicion of sexual assault. Thirty-seven-year-old Collin Holcomb has been suspended with pay pending the investigation of the alleged incident involving a 14-year-old girl.

Holcomb told police that the girl is more mature than her age and they are in love. He said they planned to meet secretly until they could "come out."

Police were called to Churchich Park Thursday night when neighbors became suspicious.

By the time officers arrived at the park, the girl was gone but authorities eventually found her.

Holcomb was brought to police headquarters for questioning and then booked on suspicion of sexual assault of a child - second degree.

The neighbor who contacted police has told investigators that Holcomb and the girl have been seen meeting in the park for at least a year.

On Friday morning, Holcomb's pickup truck remained where he had left it Thursday night, across the street from Dawn's house.

Dawn says, "It creeps me out. I have a two-year-old and a four-year-old and the thought of something like this happening -- starting to happen across the street from my house, creeps me out."

The girl involved is a former student of Holcomb’s. Holcomb is a science teacher at Norris and she was in his class last year.

I dont think that he should go to jail but i do know that ,that was wrong i just think that they both wanted to do that and he shouldnt have to have a bond for it! but he was a great teacher and he is a great person

mr.holcomb was my former track teacher and he was a nice person but could you tell me is he going to court or anything?

This man is an old friend of mine. Let's all remember that in our country you are innocent until PROVEN guilty and that the media does not always have the absolute truth. The information I have read so far is terrible. If it is true then he should be punished according to the law. Another thing is that we should not blame the girl. She is only 14 and he is an adult who knows better if this is true. Something to think about... what if this teacher was a female and the student male would it be treated diffently?

I think some of us are forgetting some details! Yes it was wrong of him to be having a relationship with an underage girl and I don't think that it is right in anyway but the girl did everything willingly so really something needs to be done with her too!

most people probably mind thier own business. who wants to see the police in thier neighborhood for a no good reason.and be considered a pest from the police as they will document the call and end up investigating you before they do anything else .having said that.we live in a society where the teens are over running the system and acting far better then thier age is permitted in crime and understanding. thier values are currupted and thier parents have allowed this trend to go on for awhile. this young woman knows that what was going on was wronge and so does mr.holcolb.thiers was a mutal crime that thankfully was realized before he got bored and moved on to someone else.

Wow thats creepy, he was a teacher of mine only 3 years ago. He was always kind of weird but that is just sick!

I am furious that a teacher did this! How can we protect our children if we have a sexual predator right in a child's classroom? I am saddened that another negative comment blackens a dedicated school system (Omaha Public Schools). My question for anyone who reads this ~ "Where were the student's parents???" Responsibility starts there too!! Let us not judge him, but have empathy for him, his friends, and family.

i can't belive what is happening at that school. i attended norris about two years ago and it makes me sick to find out that what a teacher could do that. now i'm fearing for my both cusins.

We ran track with him and we were wearing short shorts. I never really noticed him looking at u in any weird ways. We also went on a trip with him, the "Platte River State Park" trip. It creeps us out now! He seemed really nice

I know for a fact that a student and a parent reported suspicions to the administration. Why did no one do anything?

Posted by: t on May 19, 2007 at 12:05 PM
Vicki -- It doesn't matter if the girl is pressing charges. She is under the age of consent. He is 20 yrs older than her, plus as a teacher he had authority over her. As for her parents, that's a good question. Heather -- Bail/bond is NOT meant as punishment. It is simply an assurance that the accused will make their court appearances. The prosecution and judge evidently felt that Holcomb was a flight risk, thus the high bond set in this case.

How can anyone blame this young girl. A 13year old and a 37 year old man! Give me a break. He is lucky it was not my daughter as we would be talking about me in jail, not him.

Posted by: paul on May 19, 2007 at 11:46 AM
for gods sake she's fourteen years old!!..why even try and defend the guy!!!!!

Posted by: vicki on May 19, 2007 at 09:39 AM
Is the girl pressing charges? Seems to me she made her own decisions. Where were her parents? I suppose they are the ones pressing charges to ruin this mans life and try to save the daughters reputation. Lets get the facts straight before we accuse anyone of anything.

I do not agree with what has happend here, but can you please explain somthing to me: Why is his bond $1 million dollars, but the young lady that just drove drunk and killed that cop only got $200,000 bond? That was murder. So are you telling me that dating under age people is worse than killing a man that protects us. At the same time, the teacher should get the worse sentence that he can. She does not know what love is.

Posted by: A mad teacher on May 19, 2007 at 05:24 AM
It is teachers like this that make it hard for good teachers to do the job they love. Taking advantage of a child is a crime and he should be punished to the fullest extent, hog wash, they are in love, he should know better, a 13 year old has know idea what being in love is and this man exploited that and to be left with his pay what is this school thinking? Teachers of Nebraska stand up and speak out against this man and the schools actions.

One of the most disturbing thins about this is that the person who turned him in said they had seen him going to the park for over a year with her. Why did it take a year for that person to turn him in?

Posted by: cristian on May 18, 2007 at 10:59 PM
wow im suprised cause i go to norris

Posted by: SUSANA on May 18, 2007 at 10:38 PM
oK SO ALL I'M SAYING IS NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO JUDGE HIM. [ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE HIM] IF THE GIRL IS SAYING THAT SHE GOT RAPED,THEN I THINK THAT'S JUST A BIG LIE BECAUSE IF HE WAS RAPING HER THEN WHY DOES SHE ALWAYS HAVE TO GO TO THE PARK WITH HIM. I THINK THAT WHAT HE DID ISN'T RIGHT BUT NOONE HAS THE RIGHT TO JUDGE HIM. HE'S A GREAT TEACHER AND ALL MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO HIM. I THINK THAT THE GURL IS AS GUITLY AS HE IS. ALL I'M GOING TO RMEMEBER IS HOW HE USED TO MAKE ME AND MY FRIEND CRACK UP. AND HE PROMISED TO MAIL ME A LETTER TO MY HIGH SCHOOL. i'LL ALWAys REMEMBER YOU MR. H.....= ]

wow this story is very disturding i am a student at norris middle school and at the begining of the year he seemed ok but then you could see changes in him growing out his hair not getting enough sleep things like that and you could see that he was alittle to friendly to some students like myself and afew of my friends its just crazy to think what is happening around our area that we know we see but desid that we are just overreating i think that we need to get more invovled by we i mean everyone in our communitey I am dissapointed in him but surpisingly not so suprised that this has happened Omaha needs to wake up and realize what is happening in our area -7th grader at norris middle school

i am sorry SUSANA he is not the best he sexually assaulted another former student he deserves to be punished if it was who i think it was she is a wonderful person who i s mature and got along with him really well.

Posted by: student on May 18, 2007 at 07:26 PM
i am sicked by his actions

Posted by: shanon on May 18, 2007 at 07:21 PM
so then she was actually 13 when this started. sorry he is a predator. concidering what he has been doing for a living there is a good probability there are more who may have been abused until this one filled the position fulltime.

i am really let down by this tragic event i was scheduled to attend his class on Monday and now it just will not be the same walking into his classroom knowing that my teacher did such a horrible thing i am truly let down by him!

Posted by: Current female student of his on May 18, 2007 at 07:08 PM
he was one of my favorite teachers. i cannot believe that he did this. He was always talking about setting a good example and everything but know i do not know what to do. i know alot of his former students female and male came to visit him when high schoolers had a day off. I am just stunned that he would do this. Yesterday(THURSDAY) He went to Papio fun park on a 8th grade field trip. HE was a great teacher and made a mistake that i do not think i will ever be able to forgive him for. I am really let down by this and i do not know what to think about him know i know that he was involved in alot of after school activities including track and FLIGHT club and i am absolutley stunned that someone who was a rolemodle to me could have done suh a horrible thing.

WELL MR.HOLCOMB IS A VERY NICE TEACHER TO ALL HIS STUDENTS. I HAVE HIM AS ONE OF MY TEACHERS RIGHT NOW AND HE HAS ALWAYS TREATED ME WITH RESPECT. HE IS REALLY COOL AND FUNNY.I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I HOPE NOTHING HAPPENS TO HIM AND THAT HE'S THE BEST! I HOPE EVERYTHING GOES GOOD FOR HIM. YOUR THE BEST MR.H!! =] =]

If this has been going on "for at least a year" why did it take so long for the "suspicious neighbor" to come forward?? That means the child was only 13 or even younger when it was first noticed. The public has a resposibility to come forward and I hope he gets punished to the fullest extent of the law if he's found guilty.

Posted by: t on May 18, 2007 at 12:11 PM
Just a couple blocks from my house. If this has been going on for 'at least a year', why did the neighbors wait so long to contact authorities?

DO PEOPLE NOT GET IT, WHY IS IT THAT THEY DONT KNOW BETTER. THEIR IS ALOT OF SICK PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD.

In regards to the new stadium Mike Fahey is pushing through, it either should be paid for by the Royals baseball club since their the ones who want it, or scrap the idea. Omahans tax money had all ready paid to have Rosenblatt remodeled with more seats added. As a tax payer, they had better keep the CWS right where it is after making it look as good as they did, and hold more people than what their taling about with a new stadium.
