A new type of methamphetamine showing up on the street targets even younger children.

It’s flavored and is designed to lure them into non-stop drug use.

    It's a Channel 6 News Parenting Alert.

"They offered it to me and I said, oh okay," says Candise.

For Candise, illegal meth use has been a way of life.

"I figured out I couldn't quit when I wanted. I was using it all day, everyday, and it's hard to get off of," says Candise.

    Candise is 18.

She's been using meth since she was 14.

She has seen and has even used the latest variety of the drug: Candy-flavored meth.

"It's not as high quality. It's probably more appealing because it's colored and flavored. When you smoke meth or if you snort it, it burns but the flavored meth doesn't burn as bad."

Drug dealers are adding in powdered lemonade and Kool-Aid to make the meth look like the popular candy “Pop Rocks.”

"If you have something you've used as a child as candy and someone gives it to you, in you're mind it's not the same thing as a drug," says Jan Sigerson, Director of Journeys Rehabilitation Program.

Sigerson says 12 of the 14 children in the program have used meth.

She worries by adding strawberry and lemonade flavored powders, even more kids will become addicted like Candise.

"I've spent the last almost 3 years of my life locked up in detention centers, and this is my second treatment facility. It's definitely robbed me of a few years," says Candise.

Now colored rocks of a dangerous drug are being used to lure others down that same path.

It’s a trend no parent can afford to ignore.

If you think your child may be using meth, there are numerous symptoms to look for including rapid weight loss, paranoia, and facial breakouts.

There is a lot of information on the internet on how to recognize the warning signs of drug abuse.

Tess..every drug needs the attention. No convicted drug user/dealer/manufacturer should EVER get probation or just a slap on the wrist. Possesion or deliver should result in a minum of 1 year for pot and 10 years for meth. PERIOD! Why we have such a whimpy set ofprosecuters and judges is beyond me. Maybe if they were fined every time a person they plea bargined with or gave probation when they do offend again, they may be more likely to give the stiffest peanlty possible.

Why do people do this?!?! I don't understand. Don't people get that meth is bad?

Kids have a tough enough time in the world today with demons preying on them making meth look like candy! Don't meth users realize they are pouring drain cleaner into their bodies? Life is far too precious to be wasted on drugs of any kind, especially this demonic substance.

This is nothing new. My ex was a user and it(the flavored meth) was around 6 years ago. Its just a little more prevalent now.

Just what we need is more meth floating around and now we have to worry about a younger crowed getting addicted. The war on drugs need to focus it's attention on the meth issue not on the pot.
