An 81-year-old Iowa woman got confused and drove 14 hours in the wrong direction. A Wisconsin family helped her find her way home.
Last month, Audrey Hogan of New Albin, Iowa left her home at 6 in the morning to pick up some friends. Instead she drove 14 hours in the wrong direction, and ended up walking into a Wisconsin cafe at 8 p.m.
Turns out she was more than 100 miles from home. Family members tell the Wisconsin State Journal that Hogan had been suffering from spells of minor dementia.
Fortunately, the cafe's owners, Ron and Khristine Perks, both
had worked in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. They
recognized Hogan's condition and comforted her, eventually piecing
together enough information to contact her family.
In Cambridge, Wisconsin, the village board passed a proclamation honoring the Perks for their kindness.
