Channel 6 News has learned that an Omaha parent ticketed last week for child neglect is a candidate for a diversion program.

It all started when a neighbor called police because children were on the roof.

Omaha city prosecutor Marty Conboy tells Channel 6 News he has offered diversion to Lynlee Medhi after considering both her intent and the potential danger to the children involved.

Medhi tells us the children sneaked onto the roof and that she closed off the access to keep her younger children inside, allowing her to go outside to let the older kids know she caught them.

"[Diversion] is only offered in a few select child neglect cases,” says Conboy, “And this one seems appropriate for this disposition. It is entirely up to the person involved to elect to complete this process, and if they choose to, the case is not filed and the arrest or citation will eventually be removed from their record.”

A diversion program is similar to the option given for a speeding ticket. Medhi hasn't decided if she'll accept the diversion or fight the case in court.
