A young couple who recently became engaged rented an Omaha home three weeks ago and began a new life together, but last Friday they were bound by intruders and robbed at gunpoint in their new residence.

They say they are just now learning that drug dealers lived there before.

It was 4:30 a.m. and Jessica and her fiance were sound asleep inside their home near 60th and Maple. "They busted through the door, our bedroom door, started screaming cuss words, started screaming at us," says Jessica.

Two men, one wearing a ski mask, both armed with handguns had broken in through a door in the back of the house. Just one room away was their 8-month-old son, who heard the commotion and started screaming. What he doesn't see is that in his parents' bedroom, the men were beating his father.

"They were hitting him in his head with the brass knuckles, dragged him out of the room and zip-tied his arms and threw him on the bathroom floor. I screamed because they were yelling at him, are you ready to die? Are you ready to die? And I was freaking out."

Next they cable-tied Jessica. "They were zip-tied right here, the zip-ties really tight and then they tied them together.”

She knew the ordeal was far from over. For the next 20 minutes the two men ransacked the house, stealing cash and other valuables.

They finally left, telling Jessica they were being watched and warning her not to call police. Jessica slowly made her way to her fiance who was still bound and beaten in the bathroom.

"My hands were like this so I just crawled on the floor to the kitchen, got a knife. I took it to him and he just cut it, cut mine and I cut his. It was horrible. It was so scary.”

The couple want to move, but they find themselves in another bind, a lease they can't get out of. The landlord will not permit them to vacate their lease to find another home, but at this point they say they have nothing left for anyone to take from them.

Over the weekend they added new security features to the home to hopefully prevent this from happening again. “If they come back, we don't have anything left to give, what are they gonna want but our lives. So we're scared."

Jessica's fiance did not want to be interviewed. She says he has visible injuries from the attack, including marks on his wrists from the cable-ties.
