Council Bluffs police arrested a man late Wednesday night, for breaking in to a neighbor's apartment and trying to rape the woman.
It happened shortly after 11 p.m. at Sherwood Apartments, at Little John Circle, near Sherwood Drive.
Police tell Channel 6 News the suspect, 44 year-old Robert Butts, lived in a building next to the one where the alleged attack took place. That's where two sisters, aged 21 and 22, live. The victims say Butts entered their place, armed with a handgun and knife.
He apparently attempted to sexually assault one woman, not knowing the other was home in another room. She managed to sneak a call to 911. Police arrived after her sister was groped, but before she was raped.
Police say the victims did not know Butts. They say Butts has no criminal history but that he had burglary tools in his possession at the time of his arrest.
Crime scene investigators searched Butts' apartment Thursday morning. No details of the search are being released at this time.
Butts faces charges of kidnapping, sex abuse and burglary. His bond was set at $100,000. However, Thursday afternoon, Pottawattamie County Attorney Matt Wilber got it raised to $250,000.
Butts would need 10% of that, or $25,000, in order to be released from Pottawattamie County Jail.
