Most of us use the internet daily, but much of our web browsing is a part of a routine, visiting the same sites over and over. We have some website suggestions which may soon be bookmarked on your browser.
The first is a powerful parenting tool. Carla Hall, a mother of three says it's her "go to" site.
"The movie industry only gives you a very small part, like it'll say it's PG 13, for mild violence, but it doesn't say what is that violence, and this really goes in deep."
PluggedIn.com outlines what parents can expect in movies, TV shows, video games, and even music. It has categories from violence, to sexuality, and language. The site allows parents to make a more informed decision if it's appropriate for their children.
"They're not really giving their opinion on why or why not you should see it, it's a tool, it provides you with all the information you need to make the decision for yourself," said Hall.
Don Stavneak with Volano Solutions, creates website applications for businesses and spends much of his time on-line. One of his favorite websites for managing money is
mint.com.
"It's a portal for all your financial information," said Stavneak.
The free, easy-to-use website keeps all our account information in one place, making it easy to create a family budget and helps us find savings instantly.
"People are using the internet not just to go look up information, but actually store their personal information out there," said Stavneak.
That's exactly why he says the next website is needed. LegacyLocker.com stores our important user names and passwords, in order to pass them on to our loved ones in case something should happen to us.
"You put your beneficiaries in there with their email address, their home address, phone number, all the ways that you want them to be able to contact those people," said Stavneak.
Legacy Locker offers a free account with one beneficiary, or unlimited beneficiaries for 30 dollars a year, or a one time fee of 300 dollars.
The next website and one of Stavneak's favorites, is changing the way many people are finding new music. Pandora.com is a free website that creates "stations" catered to each individual. Simply type in the name of a favorite band or song and Pandora plays similar pieces based on the attributes of that specific sound. It's a great way to discover bands you may never have heard before.
"It's pretty neat, it's internet radio, with a pretty big twist," said Stavneak.
SparkPeople.com is a website that is inspiring people nationwide to lose weight.
"I said alright, I gotta do it, gotta start exercising, got to start eating right, got to do it the right way and ever since then, it has been a downhill battle," said user, Leigh Voruz.
She has been using the program for two years and lost 70 pounds. It tailors diet and exercise to each person, based on the goals they want to reach. Best of all, it's free!
"You could easily put thousands and thousands of dollars into this information and here it is at your fingertips, at no charge," said Voruz.
