No soldiers from Nebraska or Iowa were among the casualties in the shooting Thursday at Fort Hood, Texas.

The Nebraska Army National Guard says a unit of 70 soldiers from the 313th Medical Company has been stationed at Fort Hood since October 18th, training for deployment to Iraq.

The commander says they are all accounted for and were in lockdown. There are no Iowa units currently at Fort Hood.

Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue tells Channel 6 News it monitored the situation in Texas, but officials declined to talk about any specific security measures that may have been put in place.

An Army officer, identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, opened fire with two handguns, killing 12 and wounding 31. The Army said Thursday night Hasan is in custody and not dead as had been reported earlier.

There was no immediate word on a motive.
