Curbing the Robo Calls
Nebraskans lawmakers advanced a bill Thursday that could results in fewer of those automated phone calls from candidates at election time.
They gave second-round approval to a measure from Senator DiAnna Schimek of Lincoln that would prohibit campaigns from placing more than two automated calls to each resident per day, and the calls could only be made between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Last year, Democratic congressional candidate Scott Kleeb's offices were flooded in the final days of his failed campaign with complaints from people who received calls with poor-quality recordings of Kleeb's voice. Kleeb believes someone recorded one of his legitimate automated calls, then used it to flood some homes with dozens of calls to annoy voters and turn them against him.
