A 15-year-old driver was killed Thursday morning in a collision on a snow-slickened highway in central Nebraska.
The Nebraska State Patrol says Travis Slingsby of Broken Bow lost control of his car on Nebraska Highway 2 east of Broken Bow around 7:55 a.m. It crossed the center line and collided with a pickup driven by 27-year-old Kevin Hetrick of Grand Island.
Hetrick was not hurt. He was wearing a seat belt, Slingsby wasn't.
The heavy snow knocked down branches and knocked out power to other parts of the state. A 3 1/2-hour outage affecting about 400 customers occurred in the southwest Nebraska towns of Maywood and Curtis.
In Lincoln County, about 12 inches of snow were reported southwest of Brady. Snowfall ranged from 2 to 4 inches in and around North Platte with 7 inches reported south of town.
A winter weather advisory remains posted for much of southwest and central Nebraska.
