Wild flowers have gone wild and neighbors say it’s not a pretty sight.
A vacant house near 61st and Grant in Omaha’s Benson neighborhood is overgrown. The backyard full of wild flowers. Next door neighbor Pat Ladika says, “It has gone to ugly because it’s overwhelming and it’s not tended to its just gone wild.”
City weed inspectors say Omaha doesn’t have an ordinance addressing wild flowers. However the front yard is more overgrown with weeds. The city will send out an inspector and give the owner 10 days to cut weeds and clean up the property or a city crew will do the job and bill the owner.
The property owner Louise Omer tells Six On Your Side she cleans up the property twice year after the city sends her a warning notice. She does not live at the house and neighbors say she moved to Iowa.
But after our call she promises to be out within a week to cut weeds and clean up the yards both front and back.
