Nebraska Wildlife officials say they’ve received around 6,000 reports of dead deer over the past few months due to EHD.
EHD stands for epizootic hemorrhagic disease. It’s an infectious often fatal viral disease in deer.
Wildlife officials say the number of cases is way more than they would typically see this time of the year.
Officials blame the hot and dry weather this past summer for the reason that the disease spread to so many deer.
Now that it's colder outside officials believe the disease is no longer spreading, but hunters may still come across some deer carcasses.
