A domestic disturbance in Alvo Wednesday evolved into a pursuit that ended with the arrest of a 49-year-old man.
Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann said deputies were alerted the disturbance was both verbal and physical.
The Cassgram reports the male suspect was first spotted sitting in his pickup in the driveway of the residence. As deputies attempted to make contact, the suspect started the engine and drove through a yard. Attempts to stop him on Highway 63 were unsuccessful as the vehicle went through another private yard proceeded westbound on Fletcher Avenue.
The pursuit crossed the Cass/Lancaster County line with speeds reaching in excess of 100 mph. Several oncoming vehicles were forced to the side of the county road. At 134th Street and Fletcher, the vehicle went out of control as it turned south. The suspect attempted to flee on foot into a corn field.
Brueggemann says Jerry J. Vasicek was then taken into custody. A search of the cornfield yielded a small caliber handgun.
Vasicek was booked into the Cass County Jail on suspicion of 3rd degree assault, vandalism, willful reckless driving, felony flight to avoid arrest, felony possession of a firearm and other charges.
