Nebraska Towns Picked To Develop "Power Parks"
State officials have picked three Nebraska cities to help develop so-called "power parks" designed to attract data centers, high-tech companies and businesses that use a lot of power.
Gov. Dave Heineman announced on Wednesday that Aurora, Kearney and South Sioux City have been selected to participate in the new initiative and will each receive up to $50,000 in federal funds to plan the parks.
Data centers, for example, are major users of electricity, requiring 100 to 200 watts or more of power per square foot.
A small facility of 10,000 square feet typically uses more power than a small community.
Officials in each city will work with the Nebraska Department of Economic Development to develop the sites.
