Suspect's Truck Rolls Away

It’s not exactly the wheels of justice but a suspected thief is almost run over by his own brake-less truck while attempting to steal a trailer. It’s all captured on security camera video.

The trailer is owned by Landmark Group and used to move equipment between real estate projects.

Looking at video of a man in a dump truck trying to steal the trailer, Zach Meissner of landmark says, “Clearly this guy has either never done this before or didn’t anticipate the problems. He’s definitely not the brightest crayon in the box.”

The video shows the suspect repeatedly trying to back up a white dump trunk to steal the trailer. But each time he gets out to hook up, the truck rolls away on the slopped parking lot. It appears the parking brake does not work and suspect doesn’t shut off the engine perhaps because it may die.

The suspect is seen putting blocks under the tires to stop the moving truck. After several failed attempts just before sunset he returns to finish the stealing after dark. He brings a hitch and uses bolt cutters on a chain holding the back trailer wheel to a steel and concrete post.

All this captured on cameras installed by Matt Schott of Complete Security. He says camera like this range from $500 to $1,000 but some are infrared that show clear video even at night.

Anyone with information on the trailer stolen by someone in a white dump truck should call Landmark Group of Omaha at 553-8111.
