A memorial fund has been established for an Officer Christopher Johnson of the Platte County, Nebraska sheriff’s department. Johnson was killed in a crash Saturday while responding to a call.

The 34-year-old Columbus man was killed when his patrol car collided with a semi on Highway 91 in Platte County. He was responding to an injury accident and was eastbound on Highway 91 about 11:15am. The collision happened when the semi made a left turn just as Officer Johnson was traveling from the opposite direction.

The driver of the semi, 60-year-old Gene Schlake of Beatrice, was treated at a Columbus hospital.

Johnson had been a deputy with the Platte County Sheriff’s Department since 2006.

A memorial fund has been established at TierOne bank for Officer Johnson’s family. Donations can be mailed to the Christopher Johnson Memorial Fund, PO Box 606, Columbus, NE 68602.
