Public schools in Nebraska City will be opening as recently rescheduled -- one week late.
The schools were supposed to open last Thursday, but that was rescheduled to this Thursday.
Hayward Elementary had been undergoing renovation and other construction that was scheduled to be finished by Aug. 14.
But the project wasn't done soon enough for the school to obtain a certificate of occupancy and get set up before last week.
Superintendent Jeff Edwards has said the delay for Hayward forced a decision to delay all district classes, so there wouldn't be logistical problems for parents.
On Monday afternoon, a state fire inspector cleared Hayward for safety and occupancy, so classes can begin this week.
