Pheasant Numbers Up in Nebraska

Wildlife surveys done by rural mail carriers indicate a 24-percent increase in pheasant numbers in April and an 8-percent jump in July, as compared to last year. A mild winter and warm spring provided favorable conditions for the survival of the birds.

The regional numbers were highest in Southwest Nebraska where hunting is expecteed to be good this fall. Pheasant season opens Oct. 31. The youth season is Oct. 24-25.
