A Heartland woman tells Omaha Police she is out $4,000 because she fell for a Craigslist car scheme. It involved several days, phony emails, and two payments of $2,000 each.
The 28-year-old victim says she was trying to buy a Toyota Tundra pickup from a person who posted the truck on Craigslist.
After contacting the alleged seller the woman says she received an "E-Bay Checkout" email directing her to wire half of the money to a California address.
A short time later she was notified the pickup was being brought to Omaha from Miami. She then received a second email, supposedly from E-Bay, requesting the rest of the money be wired to the same address.
When the pickup did not arrive, and no one would answer her emails the woman contacted E-Bay about the situation.
An E-Bay company spokesperson told the victim they do not deal with Craigslist, and if the company did have a financial transaction they would process it through Pay-Pal.
