Husker Fans and All Motorists Urged to Stay Alert

Husker home football games, the Labor Day Holiday, and the Nebraska State Fair are all on the calendar. Highway improvement projects are in progress across the state.

The Department of Roads and highway contractors will do their best to minimize lane closures on home game days. When traffic is heavy, drivers need to pay close attention and stay alert to their roadway
surroundings.

In the Lincoln area, Highway 77 north and south of Lincoln is open to traffic although work zones may be present. The N-2/Van Dorn Street and N-77 junction at Lincoln has phased closures for paving work. There is a truck detour for the westbound traffic, using 84th Street,
until paving is completed this fall. I-80 from N. 56th St. in Lincoln to the I-180 interchange will have two lanes of traffic opened in both directions with a reduced speed limit. Girder and abutment work at the interchange may have lane restrictions throughout the construction season and temporary exit ramps at 56th, 27th and I-180, into north Lincoln, are in place.

Mainline and bridge work along I-80 continues from Kimball to east of Ogallala, and from North Platte to Grand Island. Speed zones will be in place through areas of construction. The US‑81 viaduct in Columbus is closed for new construction. Detours are posted.
