For the first time in Creighton University's history, the school's incoming freshman class exceeds 1,000 students.

Those students will move in to their dormitories this weekend, starting Friday night. Saturday will be the busiest day for move-ins, though, from 8 a.m. to Noon.

They will have a week's worth of on-campus activities to acquaint them with college life before beginning classes August 26.

More than 350 students plan to study the social sciences, liberal arts, fine or performing arts, international studies/languages, or journalism.

Half of the freshmen plan on going into research of health care. The College of Nursing has 104 freshmen enrolled, which sets an all-time record.

And, the College of Business exceeds more than 165 students, for one of its largest classes ever.

The previous record for the freshman class was set in 1979, with a freshman class of 989. Last year's group was the second largest, at 985.

The freshman class profile places Creighton among the top five private universities in the Midwest with an undergraduate enrollment of more than 4,000 students. It is also among the top eight Catholic universities and colleges in the country.
