An Iowa man is in critical condition after being shot in the head by his sister.

The Mills County Sheriff's Department says Chad Brannen had a .22-caliber handgun in his sister's Council Bluffs home. He was allegedly trying to prove to Elizabeth Brannen that only blanks were loaded in the gun.

Investigators say he fired one shot in the living room, then handed the weapon to Elizabeth who aimed at Chad's head and fired.

Elizabeth took her brother to Jennie Edmudson Hospital with a gunshot wound to the forehead. He has since been moved to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Elizabeth was arrested for reckless use of a firearm.
