Stormy weather kept the Bellevue Volunteer Fire Department busy Sunday, checking on three homes struck by lightning.

A resident in the Southroads neighborhood called 911 around 3 p.m. after seeing lightning strike a home at Day Drive and Timber Lane.

Fire crews weren’t sure the structure was actually hit by lightning, but they told Channel 6 News the lightning was close enough to short out some electronics.

No injuries were reported.

Thunderstorms downed power lines and trees in central Iowa. Some areas reported winds up to 70 mph and large hail.

Hardin County was hard hit as about 3,000 people lost power. Hardin County Sheriff Tim Smith said two people suffered minor injuries.
