The Des Moines airport board doesn't want to change the airport's name.
The board has voted to keep the name of the Des Moines International Airport.
In voting on the name-change proposal on Tuesday, board members cited the cost of changing the airport's name and name recognition.
The proposal nows goes before the Des Moines City Council.
Airport Director Craig Smith says it would cost about $85,000 to change all the places that carry the airport's name. He says it would also cost airport tenants to change the name.
Two names have been suggested for the airport.
Luther Smith was a Tuskegee Airman and Arthur Smith was a longtime airport manager.
