The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department is still working to get the city's 10 public swimming pools in compliance with a new federal law that requires special covers for drains.
The law was passed last year and affects all public pools and spas. Every public pool with a main drain must have a special drain cover and system to prevent suction entrapment.
Parks and Recreation Planning and Construction Manager J.J. Yost said this week that the pools are in the process of being modified and that they are safe.
Yost said his department hasn't been able to get the drain covers as fast as hoped because manufacturers have had difficulty keeping up with demand since the new law went into effect.
