Twenty Nebraska towns and one county will receive more than $4.5 million in federal grants, mostly for public-works projects such as repairs to streets, sewers and water wells.

Most of the money is going to small, rural communities.

The state Department of Economic Development announced the awards on Monday. The agency administers the money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The cities that will receive the money are: Ainsworth; Alma; Bridgeport; Brunswick, Clarkson; Cook; Franklin; Herman; Loup City; Manley; Marquette; Minatare; Oxford; Pawneee City; South Sioux City; Sumner, Alvo; Bassett; Benkelman; and North Platte.

Loup County will also receive a grant.
