Borders book stores will help Boys Town youth discover the joy of reading and contribute to programs that help them be successful during a back-to-school book drive.
During the month of August, Borders customers can purchase books and donate them to Boys Town at Omaha and Papillion stores.
The national book retailer will also donate five percent of the donated books’ sales to Boys Town children and programs.
“We are very excited to work with Boys Town for this book drive,” said David Gritzmacher, district manager for Borders. “Literacy is a cause near and dear to us and as a bookstore, we embrace our role as a contributing member of the community. We believe that every child in need should experience the joy of owning their own book, to aid in the development of their imagination and open up new worlds for them.”
Many of the children who come to Boys Town are several years behind in their reading skills. Special programs such as “Reading is FAME©” help them catch up to become successful readers and good literary consumers.
The Borders donation will give them a big boost in their quest for reading success.
“Reading is such an essential part of any child’s educational development, and is key to their future success,” said Father Steve Boes, Boys Town National Executive Director. “We want to thank Borders for making this important donation to our vital work.”
