The Des Moines Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa, or RAGBRAI, starts Sunday from Council Bluffs.

The riders will roll on the nearly 500-mile trek from outside the Mid-America Center at 6 a.m. They will pedal until 6 p.m. with the first stop in Red Oak.

It's become a family affair for the Vandenbergs of Gilbert, Iowa.

"It started two years ago with my oldest boy when he was 14 and last year the next boy wanted to go along with a couple of friends and then this year, a couple of parents, my wife wanted to go and my daughter wanted to go,” says Mark Vandenberg.

"It's a lot of fun, there's a lot of people who come out, a lot of music, a lot of great food overall,” says 16-year-old Gerrit Vandenberg. Plenty of great food is being served nearby their campsite with Ribfest at the Mid-America Center.
