A letter from Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman calling for higher salaries for teachers has cheered teachers, but created concerns for school officials.

On Tuesday, groups representing school board members and school administrators were scheduled to meet with Heineman to discuss the letter.

In the letter written last month to the Nebraska State Education Association, the statewide teachers' union, Heineman says he's grown increasingly concerned that substantial increases in state aid aren't reflected in teacher pay.

The president of the Nebraska Association of School Boards said the letter has driven a wedge between teachers and school boards just as many are in the midst of contract negotiations.
